North America Borehole Seismic Viewing Distances
Whenever considering a downhole microseismic survey prospective clients have had limited opportunities to evaluate a project's feasibility prior to meeting with vendors, and often it has been up to the vendor to tell a client if the project was viable in addition to adding hours to days before an answer can be determined.
Here I offer a chance for prospective clients a first chance to explore the options independently, instantaneously, and at no cost to the client.
Before viewing the project understand there are a few items we need to be clear on.
Viewing distance in my interpretation is not a singular farthest event but rather where some spread of event magnitudes would be observed.
How did I make this map? This is a best guesstimate based solely on my knowledge and experience in the regions I have worked in. I have color coded the circles, sized them accordingly and hidden any locations from previous projects (i.e. the circles are not centered on particular wellheads).
Factors that contribute to viewing distance are numerous such as tool type, cement bonding, but the brittleness and pumping rates tend to be the dominant factors (previously discussed here).
